I spent years in a flower shop using my creativity to design flower arrangements and window displays that would catch the eye and bring a smile. After a change in ownership and the birth of my first two children, I wanted an 'at home' job and began painting for two renowned collectibles companies. This stirred a desire to create things of my own and I started dabbling in clay, paint, and gourds. Hurricane Isabel hit in 2003; the potter's wheel and kiln were destroyed by flood waters, but the gourds in my work shed floated! I devoted the next year to learning how to grow and transform gourds into art. I love making figures and have done several in bottle caps, mirror, gourd pieces, and nails. going on in Marcie's studio??
As many of my customers and friends know, I went back to school last year to update my skills and learn something new. This endeavor has been challenging, fun and time consuming. I graduated May 14, 2015 with an Associates of Applied Science in Computer Arts.
Last year I also returned to the world of work outside my studio as a floral designer at The Flower Shoppe in Poquoson (we celebrated our 1 year anniversary July 2015.) I still have my freelance business sculpting and painting, and my very patient family is still supportive of my crazy schedule.
